Growing Children

Why do babies grow so fast?  They sure don't stay babies for long.  Here is a quote that I have come across more than once that I really like (and like in the Bible, if it's repeated more than once, then you know it's important):

Cleaning and scrubbing will wait ’till tomorrow, but children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs! Dust go to sleep! I’m rocking my baby. Babies don’t keep. – Ruth Hamilton

So, if you happen to stop by my house, be warned that it will be messy.  But hopefully there will be happy kids running around.

Enough with my ramblings and on to the kids!  Noah has learned to crawl, pull to standing, sit unsupported and go from crawling to sitting all in the span of under two weeks.  So many milestones all at once!

Hannah is growing and developing in other ways.  We have been working on recognizing letters, doing one letter a week.  We're only on letter B, but she can recognize at least 5-6 letters now.  She will point them out where ever she may be.  It's amazing how she just soaks everything in!  She loves learning and doing 'school time.'  If I start slacking and not pulling stuff out for her to do, she certainly reminds me! :)  The other day while I was pulling out her worksheets (per her request) she put her arm around my shoulders, squeezed and said "Mom.  I like you."  She blows me away with how sweet she can be.  She has become a very compassionate and caring young girl.  She will caution me when I'm in the kitchen:  "Don't burn yourself, Mom!"  "Watch the hot stove."  "Don't cut yourself with that knife." or "Don't choke!"  LOL.  It's crazy to hear her say some of the things I say to her.  She also comforts Noah for me, if I can't get to him right away (like when I'm cooking dinner.)  She'll go to him and say "It's ok, Noah.  Mommy's coming for you.  Calm down."  She's a sweetheart!  Another great thing she has started doing is asking Dan how his day was when he comes home and we're chatting over dinner!  :)

A few pictures from the last few weeks.

Please forgive the drool... it's in almost every picture of Noah (has been since he was born!)  He always has his mouth open.  LOL.

Riding in Hannah's school bus.

Hannah is wearing her baby in a 'wrap' like Mommy wears Noah.  :)

Chillin' outside.

The kids together!

Check out their faces!  They enjoy each other soooo much.  Now that Noah is a little bit older, most times when I'm taking the kids in the car by myself, all I hear are giggles and laughter from the backseat.  I love it!

He is sleeping in this picture, while holding his foot.

And they're off!

I made a makeshift bulletin board for Hannah's 'school work.'  She loves it!  She's so proud of her coloring and worksheets, that I felt bad just putting them in a folder.  Now we have a place to display her work for the week.  (Yes- it's in the living room!  We don't have any other place to put it right now!)

I hope to post more about the garden soon.  I have lots of pictures of the garden to share with you.  :)

Garden Goodies

The garden is doing awesome.  We are starting to get some goodies, besides lettuce now.  We have dug up some onions, picked zucchini, cucumbers and a few green and yellow beans.  Hannah ate all the beans (only a handful) before we even got inside.  I made a yummy zucchini dinner the other night with our first zucchini of the year.  I took pictures of it to share with you.

They started out like this:

But ended up like this- in zucchini pizza!

Here are the action shots.  If anyone is interested, I can update this post with the recipe.

This is what the garden looks like right now.  Things are growing pretty nicely.

Busy Busy!

Things have been busy, but good!  Sorry it's been so long without an update.  I just can't seem to get a few minutes to update the blog lately.

The kids are great!  Growing so much.  Noah is crawling now.  He leaps like a frog.  :)  And he's working on some teeth.  Hannah has a great imagination and is always talking to her imaginary friends and playing with them.

The garden is doing awesome- I hope to do a separate post on that soon.  I have some great pictures to share!  So far we have dug up some onions, picked 4 zucchini, 5 cucumbers, had lots of lettuce and munched on a few green beans.  Things are doing very well.

Noah being cute at breakfast.

Noah playing with Hannah's new hula hoop.

Both kids in the hoop!

Hannah made sugar cookies for the 4th of July.  She had a lot of fun!!

The mark of a true baker- flour on the face! :)

Getting some of his toys on his own.

Hannah's newest learning tool, an alphbet and number poster that I made.  Hannah can match up all the numbers and the smileys (I don't think she knows the numbers, she just matches them by their shape.)  But I'm still impressed.  I just finished making this and Hannah was all over it (literally) sitting on it and matching things up.  She even pointed out the letter H and said that's an 'H.'  Yay for Hannah!

I'm sure there will be more posts about this in the future, but one of our passions/desires is to homeschool our children.  I have done a few preschool-type activities with Hannah here and there.  My plan is to get my thoughts and goals together by summer's end and start her official preschool in the fall, just like a typical preschool.  I have a curriculum that I'm going to try to incorporate into my plan, but I'm not sure if I'll use that alone or come up with my own lesson plan for the year.  Hannah's pretty excited about it and loves when we have 'school time.'  We have created a bulletin board for her to display her projects on and she loves to look at them.  Someday I hope to have a separate room or space that will be dedicated soley to school, but right now it's just not possible.  So our living room will have to do for now.

I guess that's about it for this post.  I hope to share more pictures and thoughts soon.  Thanks for reading!  Leave a comment so we know you were here.  :)
